Article published by The Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences SATW (EN/DE/FR) Author: Simon Koechlin, Monday, 07. September 2026 Interview with Arthur Woods CEO- Astrostrom GmbH and Prof. Dr Christophe Ballif, professor at EPFL and founder of the photovoltaics division at the CSEM research centre in Neuchâtel https://www.satw.ch/en/news/solar-power-from-space Image: Space-based solar power stations would generate electricity from sunlight and transmit it to Earth in the form of microwaves. ESA – A. Treuer. Space-based solar power stations could generate electricity almost round the clock and transmit it to Earth via microwaves. The individual technologies are well developed, but their interaction on a [...]
Greater Earth Energy Synergies
The Greater Earth Lunar Power Station (GE⊕-LPS) feasibility study funded by the European Space Agency and completed in 2023 represented an art-to-reality evolution of artworks that began with the OURS-Orbiting Unification Ring Satellite, the OUR-Space Peace Sculpture and the Millennium SEED space art projects. These orbital artworks which were designed to be deployed in orbit utilizing inflatable space technologies were continuously developed by adding space technologies and became authentic space projects. These projects have been developed by a multinational interdisciplinary collaborative team effort and are now being exhibited in art and science museums. Arthur Woods, Switzerland – CEO Astrostrom GmbH, [...]
Transforming the Fossil Fuel Age into the Space Energy Age
The Space Energy Option Humanity is at a crossroads: we must decide if we prefer to live and prosper in an energy-rich world or attempt to survive in an energy poor-one. Finding a viable solution to the impending energy and climate crises confronting humanity is urgently necessary. The fundamental causes of these interrelated issues are the many environmental and geopolitical issues associated with the continued use of fossil fuels added to the fact that these are projected to become harder to extract, to distribute, and are more conflict prone. Policies to reduce energy consumption, and inadequate measures currently being implemented [...]
Enabling Peace off, with, and on Earth
The biggest obstacles to space development and to civilisation in general, are the wars over energy and other resources we are currently witnessing. The current period of shared prosperity, built upon and supported by a reliable global supply of fossil fuels is coming to an end. Today, more than two-thirds of the world’s traded fossil fuels comes from countries affected by war, sanctions, or blockades. This has made fossil fuel supplies increasingly limited and fragile, with a constant risk of further disruption. At the same time, easily available oil and mineral reserves are being depleted, economies are weak, debt is [...]
